A McMinnville man is facing charges of attmepted criminal homicide after shooting his roomate during an argument that took place early July 4. 21 year old William Fernandez is in jail and being held without bond.
According to Detective Todd Rowland of the McMinnville Police Department the incident took place between Fernandez and 25 year old Devon Grove at their residence on Mauzy St. Rowland said he spoke to Grove and he told him that when Fernandez returned he told him to pack up his things and leave. Grove was helping him with a tote and was told to put it down, which he complied. When he turned to go back in Fernandez opened fire and shot him in the spine that struck his C-7 vertebrae. Grove said he knew he was shot multiple times but never felt it. The other bullets lodged in his clavicle and went through his bicep. Hospital officials say he is paralyzed at this time. Surgery is planned later this week to remove the bullet from his collar bone. Grove told Rowland he was trying to help Fernandez get steered in the right direction. After shooting Grove Fernandez called 911 and waited outside the residence and was arrested without incident. He was arraigned in General Sessions Court Tuesday and was appointed an attorney. His next appearance is July 12. Rowland added that more charges are forthcoming because there were two other females in the residence.
