On Wednesday (8/28/2024) the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported 6 new listeria deaths linked to deli meat, including one person from Tennessee.

Fifty – seven people across the country have been hospitalized and 9 have died in what the CDC says is the largest listeria outbreak since the 2011 outbreak linked to cantaloupe.

The CDC says everyone should check their homes for any remaining recalled Boar’s Head products since they can have long a shelf-life. Look for “EST. 12612” or “P-12612” inside the USDA mark of inspection on the product labels. Some of the products have sell by dates into October 2024. Do not eat recalled deli products. You can find a list of recalled deli meats on the CDC website.

It can take up to 10 weeks for some people to have symptoms of listeriosis. Call your healthcare provider if you have symptoms of Listeria and recently ate any recalled items or sliced deli meats.
