A Rock Island man was killed Saturday night in Rock Island when his motorcycle crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a car.
According to Trooper Andrew Coppinger of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, 32 year old William Lee Vaughn of Rock Island was traveling northbound on Highway 287 on Great Falls Rd at a high rate of speed when he failed to negotiate a curve and struck in the southbound lane a 2005 Buick, driven by 20 year old Shawn Earls. Coppinger said two witnesses saw Vaughn speeding on a road that has a posted 25 mph limit that come close to hitting them. Vaughn received multiple injuries from the crash and was not wearing a helmet. He was flown by Lifeforce to Erlanger Hospital where he was pronounced dead. EMS examined Earls at the scene but he was not injured and did not need medical treatment.
